Let's take a minute to talk about hair color...

I know hair color might seem magical and the way we do it is nothing less than something out of a Harry Potter book...but I assure you there is MUUUUCCHHHH more going on behind the scenes. Let's take a little journey through the process.

First step is making the reservation:

So you've decided you want a change. Awesome, we can't wait to talk about it! That's the kicker right there... TALK about it. If you are a new guest or one of the family wanting to make a major color change, we RECOMMEND a complimentary consultation ahead of your actual color service. This does a couple things: if you are new to us, it gives you a chance to experience a little of the salon and get to know the team member who will be doing your hair. It also allows us to inspect your hair and its condition. You see, your desires for your hair and reality don't always match up. It's not in anyone's best interest for you to leave with compromised hair, if your hair can't handle what you want done to it, we will get you on a path to recovery.

If we've never seen you before, the consultation also gives us the ability to time the service properly. Vibrant colors are all the rage right now, but it is quite the process to achieve. We know your time is valuable, as is ours, we want to make sure that all parties are comfortable with the length of time it will take to achieve your hair goals. Then we can work with our reservation desk to make the service a reality in the near future. We can also give you an accurate price for the service if we can meet you in person and get a game plan for you hair. The prices online that you see are just a starting point, very rarely are they the final price. Length, density, how much color is used and how much time it will take are all factored in to the final price of the service. We cannot stress how IMPORTANT a CONSULTATION is for both you and us. If you do make a color reservation online, you could be contacted by our reservationists to change it to a consultation at the request of the stylist. Please keep this in mind for when you do book online.

Next is the Color Service:

After the consultation has happened and we've set up a future reservation, the day has arrived for your color service with your colorist. Please come to your service with clean dry hair, I know we've all heard that you are supposed to color dirty hair, but the reality is, dirt and oil can impede the color process. If you do have to style it for the day of your reservation, please keep the products to an absolute minimum. If you come to your session with dirty hair, your stylist may have to shampoo it and dry it before the color process resulting in an additional charge onto the final ticket.

Arrive at least 15-20 minutes before your service to relax, have a beverage and change into a color robe. These robes are provided to our guests to protect clothing and ensure a comfortable experience. Hair color stains... everything. We'd hate to have your top spotted with color. You can change back into your clothing after the color service and before the style if you want to protect your style.

Hair coloring is a "hurry up and wait" process. Our color needs to process at room temperature for a set time. Sometimes its only 15-20 minutes but sometimes it's up to an hour or so, depending on the products used. We provide magazines, entertainment and free wifi for our guests. If you want to use your phone while you process you might want to bring your charger to make sure you can snap all those selfies while you wait.

If your reservation is around the lunch hour or around dinner time, we encourage you to plan for that as well. We have no problem with you bringing in food or beverages to the salon (no alcohol please) to eat while you process. We have a fridge and microwave if you need to use it as well (you might have to share a french fry or two with your stylist, and Starbucks is always a great way to get in good with them).

Rinsing time isn't always the final step, there could be other steps needed in order to achieve the final result, often this includes; toning, glazing or touch ups. That means you might have to post up in the washhouse for a few minutes while this happens. Lean back and take a nap in our comfortable washhouse sinks (not the worst thing in the world).

And after the Color Service:

Your hair looks great!! We've been on a journey and now its time to reach the finish line. Your stylist is going to have some homework for you. Take Home care is very important to maintain your hair color. Any bargain basement shampoo and conditioner absolutely won't do, we have the products specifically designed to enhance and elongate your color. All hair color fades, but we can ensure that it lasts as long as possible and ensure that is as radiant as when you left the salon.

There will also be a recommendation on your next color visit. Different techniques require different maintenance schedules. Your stylist will give you the preferred timing for your next reservation.

We take Hair Color very seriously at Magnolia Avenue Salon. We are very proud of our team members work and back them 100% of the time. If you are never happy with your hair, we will do everything within reason to make sure that you are a happy guest. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact us and we will try and answer any questions you have.

Have a Great Day and see you at the Color Bar!
